This is just an easy walk to the Chinese deli down the street and back. Nothing unusual - street noises, people talking on their cell phones, etc. Maybe the social interaction moment at the shop will appeal to some.

What might strike you about this is the nature of the recorded soundscape. It is actually the first time I use my brand-new Soundman OKM II Klassik binaural microphones outdoors.

El deseo de andar: Expedición #2

Second installment in the "El deseo de andar" series - November 26, 2007. This time, I asked people for directions on my way - the idea was to try and get "guided" on my everyday route.

The results were curious. It's amazing how hard it is for people to give accurate directions. Or how well they know places they don't really know the names of. The official nomenclature - street name, square, etc. - is not really what guides them around the city. They are much more aware of underground stations, shops and bars.

So, I managed to get "lost" for a while, and one particular square was really "hard" to find.

This walk really took the project into another direction - the idea of people's improvised, fragmented map superimposed on the official urban plan of the city. Also, the idea of time appeared - the shared memory of a closed marketplace, shop, or concert venue...

So, the project stalled for a while - and I'm still somewhat uncertain as to which way to go with it.

El deseo de andar, Expedición #1

A field recording, part of the collective project "El deseo de andar" by Lorena Sanchez (http://eldeseodeandar.blogspot.com). This is an initial stage in the project, and the first part of an incremental sound/narrative collage.

The project has languished on my hard drive for a while, though I've rarely lost sight of it. Another sound walk was produced about a month later, which I still need to edit and upload.
